I hope everyone knows Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, but for those who don´t here is some information. Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five were also one of the first rap groups, that rose to fame and great success. The group consisted of the legendary DJ Grandmaster Flash and the five rappers Melle Mel, Kidd Creole, Cowboy, Mr. Ness/Scorpio, and Rahiem. Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. They were the first rap group to be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Only Run D.M.C. were inducted in 2009 as the second rap group.

With their hit single The Message they probably created the most influentual hip hop song ever. The Message was first released in 1982. With it´s political and social lyrics the song also had a strong influence on conscious hip hop.

The Sequence was probably the first female hip hop group. The Sequence was definitely the first female rap group ever to release a rap record. The Sequence was also signed to Sugar Hill Records.
So give it up for the real female rap pioneers.

The Sugar Hill Gang was one of the first hip hop groups and the first one to be commercially successful. Their famous song “Rappers Delight” was the first hip hop song to become a Top 40 Hit. “Rappers Delight” was released in 1979 and became the most sold 12 ” of all times, at that time.
